About
Hello, I am Amy Schmid. I have over a decade of experience in both formal and nonformal education. I have worked in Extension and more recently was a TOSA (teacher on special assignment) for the Tillamook School District where I was the Natural Resources Coordinator. I managed the natural resources program for the district working with community partners and volunteers to coordinate grade level field trips and activities for K-8th grades and bringing in high school students to assist in running activities. Last year I coordinated with George Fox University College of Education and facilitated having students from a place-based elective course working on field trips as well.
I have harnessed the power of collaboration to expand the capacity of organizations and streamline programming. I am a founding member of the TC STEAM Partnership growing the local network from 4 organizations to over 16 actively participating community partners. This includes a twice-yearly volunteer orientation and training allowing organizations to recruit and grow their volunteer base.
In 2020 we introduced nature journaling into the work with were doing. I worked with community partners in the TC STEAM Partnership to fund, create, and organize naturalist kits that were set home to every K-6th grade public school student in Tillamook County in the fall of 2020. In the fall of 2021, we created and funded classroom naturalist kits for teachers and in the spring of 2021 provided professional development for teachers in nature journaling with students. We teach journaling concepts to volunteers as prompts they can use to engage students during activities and field trips.
